In the Jeffrey Epstein case, former U.S. President Donald Trump accuses Democrats of deliberately trying to link him to the investigation. According to Trump, the documents had been "kept hidden by the enemy." Meanwhile, Epstein’s former girlfriend and accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, is back in the spotlight. She was recently questioned personally by Trump’s Deputy Attorney General.
During the interrogation, Maxwell reportedly revealed the names of more than 100 individuals who had close connections to Epstein. According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, the list allegedly includes tech billionaire Elon Musk, as well as his brother, Kimbal Musk. Maxwell’s attorney stated that the 63-year-old, currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking of minors and other charges, answered all questions regarding the Musks and other powerful figures from politics, business, and entertainment. She did not evade a single question, according to her legal team. Trump does not rule out pardoning Maxwell.
Her defense attorney has claimed that Maxwell is merely a scapegoat in Epstein’s widespread abuse network. Her willingness to cooperate, it is said, stems from her desire to seek a presidential pardon. Trump, for his part, has not dismissed the possibility. “Nobody has approached me about it yet,” he said during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. “The media is talking about it, but for now, it would be inappropriate to comment further,” Trump added — echoing earlier remarks he has made on the matter.
These vague statements have sparked speculation in the U.S. about whether Trump would actually consider pardoning Maxwell. Politically, such a move would be highly explosive — even among Trump’s own base. Trump emphasized he prefers to focus on other priorities: “We want to concentrate on trade deals,” he said, referring to a recently concluded agreement with the European Union. As for Epstein, Trump described him as a “very controversial guy,” but added, “he’s no longer around.” Why Trump’s inner circle is concerned Epstein, who systematically abused minors for years, allegedly died by suicide in prison in 2019 at the age of 66.
Maxwell was sentenced in the summer of 2022 and remains incarcerated. She played a central role in establishing a network to exploit underage girls for sexual purposes. In parts of American society, Epstein’s death sparked wild speculation, as he maintained close ties with elite figures. Celebrities and billionaires frequently visited him. Trump himself appeared in multiple videos at Epstein’s parties. During his campaign, Trump promised to release Epstein’s sealed records. As he has yet to do so, pressure is mounting — even from within his own political circle.
