It was only about three years ago that Prince William and his wife Kate moved into Adelaide Cottage with their children. Now, it is said that the heir to the throne is once again looking for a new home, and has even set his sights on something truly majestic. Adelaide Cottage has served as a refuge for Prince William, Princess Kate, and their three children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—over the past three years.

At the same time, it is believed that the property on the grounds of Windsor Castle was always intended as a temporary solution for the royal couple. A move to Edward VIII’s favorite estate? According to the Mail on Sunday, Kate and William are currently searching for a new home that offers more space than their current residence, which has only four bedrooms. “This time, it will be a more spacious residence,” a royal source told the British newspaper.

The source also revealed that the couple already has a favorite in mind. Rumors suggest that the family is eyeing Fort Belvedere, a neo-Gothic style estate tucked away in a hidden corner of Windsor Great Park. The property was built in the 18th century and later became the favorite residence of Edward VIII, Queen Elizabeth’s uncle, who fully renovated it. He lived in Fort Belvedere before and during his short reign as king. It is believed that this is the place where he signed the documents sealing his abdication in 1936.

Swimming pool and tennis court For Prince William’s family, moving to Fort Belvedere would offer a clear advantage: the family would enjoy much more space than they currently have at Adelaide Cottage. Among other features, the estate includes a swimming pool and a tennis court—an absolute dream for the sport-loving royal children. In addition, there are several gardens, two lakes, and three cottages on the vast estate, which Kate and William could use to accommodate staff, for example. “They feel Adelaide Cottage has become too small for them, and they need something larger,” the Mail on Sunday quoted the royal source as saying.

Royal Lodge is no longer an option However, there are no concrete plans for the move yet, as Kate and William are still considering other options. Recently, there were also rumors that the heir to the throne might move into the Royal Lodge—the 30-room property currently occupied by Prince Andrew. But even though it is said that King Charles issued an eviction notice to his disgraced brother back in 2023, Andrew reportedly refused to move and ultimately reached an agreement with the monarch allowing him to remain in the Royal Lodge.
