FC Bayern Munich continued their steady march toward the Bundesliga title with another important victory on Wednesday night. In their second competitive match of the spring, Vincent Kompany’s side overcame early difficulties to secure a 3–1 away win against 1. FC Cologne. The result further strengthens Bayern’s position at the top of the table. After matchday 17, the Bavarians now hold an eleven-point lead over their closest challengers, Borussia Dortmund.
RB Leipzig, currently third after a 2–0 win over SC Freiburg, trail the league leaders by fifteen points. The match in Cologne did not begin smoothly for Bayern. The hosts, eager to end a poor run of results, took the lead in the 41st minute through Linton Maina, capitalizing on a rare defensive lapse from the visitors in a surprisingly balanced first half. Bayern responded at a crucial moment just before halftime. Serge Gnabry found the equalizer in stoppage time of the first half (45+5), restoring confidence and shifting the momentum back in favor of the reigning champions.
After the break, Bayern’s dominance became increasingly clear. With greater control of possession and sharper movement in midfield, Kompany’s team gradually pushed Cologne deeper into their own half and limited their attacking opportunities. The turnaround was completed in the 71st minute when Kim Min-jae scored with a powerful header from a set piece.
The victory was sealed late on by 17-year-old substitute Lennart Karl, who finished calmly into the far corner in the 84th minute to cap an impressive away performance. With this win, Bayern closed the best first half of a Bundesliga season in the club’s history, recording their 15th league victory.
The consistency and depth of the squad continue to underline their status as clear favorites for the title. For Cologne, the defeat extended a difficult spell. Sitting in 12th place, the club has now gone eight consecutive league matches without a win. Florian Kainz remained on the bench throughout, as the hosts were left searching for answers once again.
