On the night of September 14, 2025, the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, in a ceremony broadcast by CBS and Paramount+ and hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. The big winner of the night in the drama category was HBO Max’s The Pitt, which won the award for Outstanding Drama Series, while its lead actor Noah Wyle received his first Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series after years of nominations without wins, earning a standing ovation from the audience.
In comedy, the debut series The Studio from Apple TV+ swept with 13 awards, setting a historic record for a comedy in its first season, including Outstanding Comedy Series and several personal awards for its co-creator Seth Rogen, who took the stage multiple times throughout the night. Another major winner was Netflix’s limited series Adolescence, which won Outstanding Limited Series as well as awards for directing and writing, cementing its status as one of the most acclaimed productions of the television season.
In acting categories, Jean Smart shone once again by taking home her fourth Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Hacks, while her co-star Hannah Einbinder won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and delivered one of the most talked-about moments of the night with a speech filled with political messages in which she exclaimed “Free Palestine” and “Fuck ICE,” statements that were partially censored during the live broadcast.
Meanwhile, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won in the category of Outstanding Talk Variety Series just days after the show’s cancellation was announced, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and emotion in the theater. This edition of the Emmys was marked by the dominance of new productions, powerful speeches, and emotional recognitions that made it one of the most intense ceremonies in recent years.
