Geneva witnessed a night of passion, drama, and unforgettable football as England’s Lionesses secured their place in the UEFA Women’s Euro final with a gripping 2–1 win over Italy in front of 26,500 spectators.
The defending champions now dream of back-to-back titles, igniting a wave of national euphoria. The match opened with Italy stunning the crowd in the 33rd minute when Barbara Bonansea struck first, converting their first real opportunity into a goal and giving the underdogs hope of reaching their first Euro final since 1997.
But the English side, determined and resilient, kept the pressure mounting. Their efforts paid off when rising star Michelle Agyemang scored the equalizer in the 96th minute of extra time. Agyemang, who had already proven heroic in the quarter-final against Sweden with a late equalizer, once again rose to the occasion.

Extra time was tense, with both teams cautious and avoiding unnecessary risks. Then, the tempo dramatically shifted in the final moments. Agyemang came inches from scoring with a powerful strike that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar in the 117th minute. Seconds later, England was awarded a crucial penalty after a foul in the box. Chloe Kelly stepped up, and though her initial shot was brilliantly saved by Italian goalkeeper Laura Giuliani, she made no mistake on the rebound, firing home to make it 2–1 in the 119th minute.
The goal sealed the deal and sent the Lionesses into celebration mode. The tournament now moves to Zurich for the second semifinal, where Spain and Germany will clash for the remaining spot in the final. The championship match is set to take place this Sunday at 6 PM at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. With England’s thrilling performance, fans are already dreaming of another glorious chapter in women’s football history.
