What happened.
Macaulay Culkin has returned to his iconic role as Kevin McCallister in a new Christmas campaign titled Home But Not Alone. The initiative was created by Home Instead, a company specializing in home care for the elderly. In this modern version, Kevin is no longer defending his house from burglars but instead worries about keeping his mother, Kate—once again played by 71-year-old Catherine O’Hara—safe at home.
Why it matters.
Culkin, now 45, reconnects with audiences who grew up with Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2 (1992), while delivering a touching reflection on aging and the role of adult children in caring for their parents. In one clip, Kevin creates a “Mom Safety Plan,” marking household hazards and saying, “I just worry about her being alone.” The campaign blends humor, tenderness, and social awareness, transforming nostalgia into a universal message about family and care.
What’s next.
Directed by Jody Hill, the short film aims to spark conversations about family caregiving during the holidays. “We wanted to tell this story authentically because everyone faces this moment with a loved one,” said the director. Beyond nostalgia, Home But Not Alone reimagines Kevin as a grown man protecting his aging parent—a heartfelt, human continuation of a story that still touches generations.
