Three people have been arrested in Russia after an alleged assassination attempt targeting former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. According to security officials, the attackers reportedly hid a camera inside a flower vase to monitor the operation in real time and receive instructions from abroad.
The FSB stated that the plot was uncovered in Moscow and that authorities managed to prevent the attack before it could be carried out. Russian officials claim that the Ukrainian intelligence service planned the assassination, which supposedly took place at the Troyekurovo cemetery.
From this location, a concealed device was allegedly used to coordinate the operation remotely. However, these details cannot be independently verified, and Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the incident, leaving several aspects of the case unclear.
Shoigu, one of the most controversial figures within the Kremlin’s inner circle, served as Russia’s Defense Minister from 2012 to 2024, a period marked by the annexation of Crimea and the start of the war in Ukraine. Before his dismissal, he faced internal criticism, power struggles, and multiple allegations of corruption.
He now serves as Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, a position seen by many analysts as a way to preserve his standing within President Vladimir Putin’s close network.
