The son of Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been charged with four counts of rape and 28 other offenses. The renegade Filius Marius Borg Høiby (28) will now stand trial, facing a long prison sentence. His celebrity status does not protect him from prosecution. The accusations against the 28-year-old are serious: they range from rape to multiple sexual assaults, physical assaults, public disorder, and property damage.
In addition, according to the indictment, he filmed women’s genitals without their knowledge or consent. According to prosecutors, he must answer in court for 32 cases. “It is important that the Public Prosecutor’s Office ensures equality before the law. The fact that Marius Borg Høiby is part of the royal family (…) should have no influence on the charges and any possible punishment,” said prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø. The scandalous royal relative could face up to ten years in prison.
These are “very serious acts that can leave permanent scars and destroy lives.” According to the prosecution, the defendant is said to have committed the four rapes he is accused of in 2018, 2023, and 2024, the last of which allegedly occurred after official investigations against him had already begun.

Some accusations admitted Following the initial accusations of assault and property damage, Marius admitted in August 2024 to becoming violent with his then-girlfriend under the influence of alcohol and cocaine, and to destroying items in her apartment.
Drug and alcohol abuse In a written statement at the time, he reported psychological problems and revealed that he had been struggling with substance abuse for a long time. He has denied other allegations through his defense lawyers, including the sexual crimes.
The scandal surrounding Høiby has dealt a severe blow to the Norwegian monarchy. After the rape allegations became public, he spent a week in custody, after which he reportedly refrained from drugs while in London. Marius is the eldest of the three children of Mette-Marit and the stepson of the heir to the throne, Crown Prince Haakon (51). Although he belongs to the royal family, he does not hold a princely title and is not an official member of the Norwegian royal household.
