Renowned filmmaker James Cameron said he does not view artificial intelligence as a real threat to the art of cinema, arguing that creativity cannot be reduced to algorithms or averages of past work. Speaking at the age of 71, the director behind global blockbusters such as Titanic and Avatar emphasized that art does not function as a mathematical mean of everything that has ever been created, but rather emerges from the unique perspective and lived experience of individual artists.

Cameron explained that while artificial intelligence may become a valuable technical tool within the film industry, particularly in areas such as visual effects, production efficiency, or data-driven processes, it cannot replace the human vision at the core of filmmaking. According to him, cinema is shaped by intuition, emotion, memory, and personal judgment, elements that cannot be replicated by systems that rely solely on existing data and patterns.

The director noted that technological innovation has always sparked anxiety in the arts, recalling earlier fears surrounding the arrival of sound, color, or digital effects. In each case, technology ultimately expanded creative possibilities without eliminating the role of the artist. Cameron believes artificial intelligence will follow the same path, serving as an aid rather than a substitute for composers, actors, writers, and directors whose individual identities define each film.

His remarks come amid an ongoing debate in Hollywood over the impact of artificial intelligence on creative jobs and authorship rights. Cameron maintains that the future of cinema will continue to depend on human storytelling, driven by personal vision and emotional depth, qualities he considers impossible to automate. For him, technology should remain a tool guided by human imagination, not a replacement for it.
