Dutch startup LeydenJar announced the development of silicon anodes for lithium-ion batteries, a technology that promises to significantly improve the capacity and lifespan of energy storage devices.
The company secured €13 million in funding, along with an additional €10 million from a U.S. firm, to scale production and accelerate the market entry of this innovation. Silicon anodes could become a revolutionary alternative to today’s graphite anodes, offering much higher energy density and shorter charging times.

This innovation also represents a direct challenge to China’s dominance in the battery industry, marking an important step toward European and global technological independence. With this breakthrough, LeydenJar positions itself as one of the most promising emerging players in the future of electric mobility and sustainable energy storage.
