German-Israeli musician Alon Ohel remains a hostage in the Gaza Strip since the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas on October 7, 2023. A recently released video circulated in international media shows him in alarming condition: blind, weakened, and visibly emaciated. His uncle confirmed in an interview that “Alon has lost his sight” and that doctors have already stated the damage is irreversible, increasing the family’s fear for his life and the urgency of him receiving immediate medical attention.
Previously, another video of Ohel in a deteriorated physical state had circulated online, footage that his family has tried to stop, arguing that its distribution constitutes “psychological terror.” According to the Jerusalem Post, only an approved portion of the material can continue to be shared. Alon Ohel was kidnapped during the massacre at the Nova music festival in Israel, where more than 360 people were killed and around 40 were taken hostage.
For months, his whereabouts remained unknown until footage from Gaza confirmed that he was being held by Hamas. The case has intensified domestic pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, with growing protests from families demanding the return of their loved ones. Meanwhile, negotiations for a possible prisoner exchange are ongoing, but so far no concrete results have been achieved.
“Every hour counts. We do not know how much time he has left,” said Alon’s uncle, expressing the desperation of a family whose plea for his life has become a painful symbol of the broader human tragedy surrounding the conflict.
